Chennai: A day after All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader D Jayakumar was granted conditional bail by the Madras High Court in an alleged case of land grabbing, the former Tamil Nadu minister walked out of the Puzhal jail on Saturday morning amid high-pitched celebrations by his supporters.

Jayakumar was arrested on February 28 for allegedly grabbing land in Thoraipakkam.

Talking to the media after walking out of jail, the minister was quoted by ANI as saying, “Actually, it is all the Stalin government’s doing. They filed false cases against me. The truth will triumph and we will come back.”

Watch how Jayakumar’s supporters celebrate:

Jayajumar was granted bail by the High Court after executing a personal bond for Rs 10,000 with two sureties each for a like sum to the satisfaction of Judicial Magistrate-I in Alandur.

Earlier, the AIADMK leader was arrested on February 20 for allegedly parading a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham (DMK) MLA half-naked for reportedly trying to cast bogus votes. Later, he was also named in a road blockade case and the land grabbing case. While he had secured bail in the first two cases, he was in jail for two weeks for the alleged land grabbing case.

The case was related to a property dispute between his son-in-law and the latter’s brother. Jayakumar’s bail application mentioned that the police filed a false case against him and alleged “political vendetta”. He also told the court that the property dispute dates back to 2016 and 2020 and the police took an action on him only after so many years.
