Climate activist and educator Sonam Wangchuk has announced that he would begin an indefinite hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar from June 28 if the Centre does not respond to the demands concerning accountability in the alleged NEET paper leak case and issues related to Ladakh.
Speaking on Thursday, Wangchuk said the government has until June 27 to address at least one of his two key demands before he proceeds with the protest.
Greetings From Palais de Nations Geneva…
This is the Jantar Mantar of Geneva where all people can gather and demonstrate
Education & Environment are my two causes and I hope at least one of them would be resolved during this week…#SonamWangchuk #CockroachJantaParty #CJP pic.twitter.com/ibpZU8J5W4— Sonam Wangchuk (@Wangchuk66) June 25, 2026
According to Wangchuk, one demand focuses on fixing accountability in the alleged NEET paper leak, while the second concerns the protection of Ladakh’s environment, culture and democratic rights. He said both education and environmental conservation have remained central to his public campaigns.
Video Message Released From Geneva
Wangchuk shared the announcement through a video posted on X while standing outside the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, where he is currently visiting. Referring to the location as the “Jantar Mantar of Geneva,” he described it as a place where people gather to peacefully raise public issues.
In his post, Wangchuk wrote that education and the environment are the two causes closest to him and expressed hope that at least one of the issues would be addressed during the week.

In the video, Wangchuk also says, “Behind me stands the United Nations office and the Broken Chair, symbolising rights. I seek accountability in education through CJP’s demands and for protecting Ladakh’s culture, environment, and democratic rights.”
During the video, Wangchuk pointed towards the United Nations office and the Broken Chair monument, saying the installation symbolises struggles for rights and justice. He reiterated that both his education-related demands and concerns over Ladakh require greater accountability from authorities.
He also linked the education-related demand to concerns raised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been campaigning over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations.
Hunger Strike Linked to Ongoing Student Protest
Wangchuk will await the government’s response until June 27, he conveyed. If the government fails to take satisfactory action, he will begin an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on June 28.
His announcement comes as the Cockroach Janta Party continues its protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi over alleged irregularities in examinations, including NEET-UG and concerns related to the CBSE examination system.
CJP Seeks Accountability in Examination System
The protesting organisation has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging repeated failures in the examination process and a lack of accountability. Protest organisers have also claimed that at least 17 students died by suicide in connection with the NEET paper leak controversy.
As part of the ongoing campaign, protesters have sent postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and continued round-the-clock demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. The protest has focused on demands for examination reforms, accountability in the education system and justice for affected students.
