Mullanpur: In a nail-biting encounter at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Rajasthan Royals (RR) emerged victorious against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the TATA IPL 2024. A disciplined bowling effort from RR, coupled with an impressive finishing performance by Shimron Hetmyer, sealed the win for the Royals in a last-over thriller.
Choosing to field first after winning the toss, RR’s bowlers put up a commendable display, limiting PBKS to 147/8. Despite PBKS’s valiant effort to bring the match down to the wire, Hetmyer’s composed batting in the final over ensured RR’s fifth win of the season.

In pursuit of 148 runs for victory, RR’s innings got off to a steady start with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tanush Kotian scoring 43/0 in the Powerplay. However, wickets fell at crucial intervals, creating tension in the Rajastha Royals camp. Captain Sanju Samson’s aggressive batting provided momentum, but it was Hetmyer’s late fireworks that ultimately secured the win for Rajasthan Royals.
Earlier in the match, RR’s decision to field paid dividends as they restricted PBKS’s batting lineup to a modest total. PBKS struggled to build partnerships, facing consistent pressure from RR’s bowlers. Despite a late surge from Ashutosh Sharma, PBKS failed to gather momentum throughout their innings.
