Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings following a stellar performance in his 100th Test match, where he clinched a remarkable nine-wicket haul.
Ashwin’s impressive bowling figures of 4 for 51 and 5 for 77 against England contributed significantly to India’s emphatic victory by an innings and 64 runs in Dharamsala, sealing a 4-1 win in the ICC World Test Championship series.
This achievement marks Ashwin’s sixth stint at the pinnacle of the rankings, as he displaces compatriot Jasprit Bumrah. Notably, Ashwin first ascended to the number one position in December 2015.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav, awarded Player of the Match, has soared 15 places to a career-best 16th position in the rankings after claiming seven wickets in the match. India’s skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have also made significant gains in the rankings, climbing five and eleven places respectively.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, honoured as Player of the Series, has ascended two places to eighth, accumulating 740 rating points after nine Tests, a feat only surpassed by Australians Don Bradman and Mike Hussey.
In the batting rankings, England’s Zak Crawley and Jonny Bairstow have each climbed a spot, while spinner Shoaib Bashir has surged 11 places to 71st position.
In another series, Australia secured a 2-0 victory over New Zealand, propelling them to second place in the WTC table. Alex Carey’s unbeaten 98 in the match saw him climb from 50th to 38th in the rankings.
Australia’s Josh Hazlewood’s outstanding performance, including a five-for, has elevated him to second position in the bowling rankings, matching his best-ever position achieved in February 2017. Despite reaching a peak bowling rating of 864 in March 2017, Hazlewood has yet to claim the number one spot, joining the ranks of Kapil Dev, Ryan Harris, Courtney Walsh, and Rangana Herath, who achieved higher peaks without reaching the top spot.
Additionally, Matt Henry’s impressive figures of 7 for 67 have propelled him six places up to 12th in the rankings, crossing the 700-point mark for the first time in his career and placing him sixth among all-rounders.
In the Men’s ODI Rankings, Ireland’s Harry Tector has equaled his career-best position, ranking fourth after scoring 141 runs in the series against Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s stellar performance has seen him rise from 24th to 22nd position.
In the Men’s T20I Rankings, Muhammad Waseem has climbed two places to 14th among batters, while Junaid Siddiqui has surged 14 places to 74th among bowlers, following his impressive four-for-14 performance for the United Arab Emirates against Scotland.
Numerous other players across various rankings have also experienced notable advancements, reflecting their outstanding performances in recent matches but the feat achieved by Ashwin is sure to bring cheers for the India team.
