Hours after reports suggested that US presidential candidate Donald Trump met Elon Musk to seek funding for his re-election campaign, in a tweet on X, the latter confirmed that he is not “donating money” to any US president candidate.
His short but “clear” tweet read, “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President”.
Earlier in the day, media reports suggested that former US President Donald Trump had met Tesla CEO Elon Musk, one of the wealthiest people, to seek funding for his re-election campaign.
Reports also suggested that Trump met Musk in Florida over the weekend. The meeting, held in Palm Beach on Sunday, involved Trump, Musk, and a select group of affluent Republican backers, according to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to the New York Times anonymously.
Trump, aiming to secure substantial financial backing for his latest re-election campaign, anticipates engaging in a one-on-one conversation with Musk soon. The CEO of Tesla Inc, SpaceX, and the owner-executive chairman of X (formerly Twitter) were reported to be in attendance. As of now, neither Musk nor Trump’s campaign has responded to requests for comment from Reuters.
Facing financial setbacks from recent judgments against him, Trump seeks to rally additional major contributors for his presidential campaign, reported thr New York Times.
Musk has consistently portrayed himself as politically neutral, with a track record of evenly distributing donations between Democrats and Republicans, according to the Times. Despite his inclination towards political independence, his potential support could substantially influence the dynamics of the 2024 presidential race.
