New Delhi: Days after the Election Commission recognised the faction led by Eknath Shinde as the real Shiv Sena and ordered allocation of the “bow and arrow” poll symbol to it, Uddhav Thackeray faction on Monday moved to the Supreme Court. The Thackeray faction has challenged the EC’s decision claiming that they are the real successor of the name and symbol of Shiv Sena.
On Friday last, the Election Commission had recognized Eknath Shinde faction as the real Shiv Sena and had allotted the party’s name and symbol. Though the Shinde camp had hailed the decision but the Uddhav camp had criticized this as it was a major blow for them. The Uddhav camp had claimed that the real name and symbol belong to them as Bal Thackeray had founded the party in 1966.
It may be noted that Shinde had mounted a rebellion in June, flying away with over 40 Sena MLAs with the help of the BJP. Later, Uddhav Thackeray had resigned as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Eknath Shinde had taken oath as the new CM of the state.
