New Delhi: Moments after a tailor was beheaded in Rajasthan’s Udaipur by two assailants for allegedly posting a status in support of ousted BJP leader Nupur Sharma, the Rajasthan Police managed to arrest Gaus Mohammed and Riyaz Ahmed. According to preliminary investigation, the duo has links with Dawat-e-Islami, a Muslim fundamentalist organisation based in Pakistan.
According to the police, Mohammed and Ahmed work at a welding shop in Khanjipeer. They were caught from Rajsamand district’s Bhim area. Rajsamand is the neighbouring district of Udaipur. The police said Riyaz, who is originally from Bhilwara, lives at a rented accommodation in Khanjipeer. They added Gaus is from Bhima in Rajasmand.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the tailor, Kanhaiyalal Teli, had informed police about threat to his life. After his murder, an assistant sub-inspector was suspended for negligence as he allegedly did not pay heed to the complaints about threat to life by Kanhaiyalal.
In a video shot by Mohammed and Ahmed, the duo was heard justifying the beheading. One of them also said they would assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well. Following the threat, the security agencies are now assessing the threat perception to the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, ousted BJP leader Naveen Jindal said he has received an email threatening to be beheaded in the same way Kanhaiyalal was killed in Udaipur.
On Tuesday, social media platforms were abuzz with videos shot by Mohammad and Ahmed where the duo was seen brutally beheading Kanhaiyaal. A video shot later showed his body lying outside his shop.
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had said, “I condemn the heinous murder of youth in Udaipur. Strict action will be taken against all the criminals involved in this incident and the police will go to the bottom of the crime. I appeal to all parties to maintain peace. Strictest punishment will be given to every person involved in such a heinous crime.”
He added, “I appeal to everyone not to try to spoil the atmosphere by sharing the video of this incident. By sharing the video, the criminal’s purpose of spreading hatred in the society will be successful.”
