In a thrilling Group B match of the T20 World Cup 2024, Scotland secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over Oman at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium late on Sunday night. Brandon McMullen’s unbeaten 61, complemented by George Munsey’s quickfire 41, propelled Scotland to triumph.
Opting to bat first, Oman posted a competitive total of 150/7, courtesy of Pratik Athavale’s resilient knock of 54 off 40 deliveries, adorned with five boundaries and two sixes. Despite a promising start by openers Athavale and Naseem Khushi, Oman’s innings faced setbacks with wickets falling at crucial intervals. However, Ayaan Khan’s late surge, supported by Mehran Khan’s brief cameo, propelled Oman to a respectable total.
In pursuit of 151 runs, Scotland encountered a minor hiccup when they lost Michael Jones early in the innings. However, Munsey’s aggressive start set the tone for Scotland’s chase. McMullen joined the fray, and the duo steered their team towards victory with confident strokeplay and astute partnership-building.
Although Munsey’s departure in the eighth over provided Oman a glimmer of hope, McMullen continued to anchor the innings with finesse. Captain Richie Berrington and wicketkeeper Matthew Cross contributed crucial runs, ensuring Scotland reached the target comfortably within 14 overs.

With this win, Scotland remains in contention for a spot in the Super Eights, ascending to the top of the Group B standings. Meanwhile, Oman’s hopes in the tournament were dashed as they suffered their third consecutive defeat, becoming the first team to be officially eliminated.
Despite some notable performances, including Athavale’s half-century for Oman, Scotland’s cohesive team effort ultimately secured them a well-deserved victory. As the T20 World Cup 2024 progresses, Scotland aims to capitalize on this momentum, while Oman reflects on their campaign, seeking improvements for future tournaments.
