The Kremlin responded with glee on Friday to the heated confrontation between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, calling it a humiliating defeat for Kyiv. Russian officials and state media seized the moment to further discredit Zelenskyy, portraying the fallout as proof of Ukraine’s waning influence on the global stage.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, was among the first to react, mocking Zelenskyy’s handling of the Oval Office debacle.
“A brutal dressing down in the Oval Office,” Medvedev posted on Telegram, adding that Zelenskyy had finally been told the truth: “The Kyiv regime is playing with World War Three.”
Russia Cheers US Rebuke of Zelenskyy
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova took the mockery further, sarcastically suggesting that it was a miracle Trump and Vice President JD Vance restrained themselves from physically ejecting Zelenskyy from the White House.

“He was biting the hand that fed him, and they let him know it,” Zakharova said.
Hardline nationalist TV commentator Vladimir Solovyov dedicated a special program titled “Zelenskyy’s Suicide in the White House”, declaring that the Ukrainian leader had lost favor with Washington.
Kremlin Officials See End of Zelenskyy’s Political Career
Russian lawmakers and political analysts framed the confrontation as a pivotal moment signaling the decline of Zelenskyy’s authority.
Sergei Markov, a former Kremlin adviser, said the clash would likely accelerate the end of Zelenskyy’s political career.
“The main conclusion drawn from this public scandal is that Zelenskyy is completely out of line and should step down as soon as possible,” Markov stated.

Konstantin Kosachyov, deputy chairman of Russia’s upper house of parliament, went further, saying that the event exposed Zelenskyy’s weaknesses and left him politically vulnerable.
“Zelenskyy lost this round with a deafening rattle. And he will have to crawl to the next one on his knees,” Kosachyov wrote on Telegram.
Russia Pushes for End to US Aid to Ukraine
The Kremlin also used the Oval Office incident to renew calls for an end to Western military aid to Ukraine. Medvedev and other Russian officials have long pushed for Washington to halt weapons shipments, arguing that they only prolong the war.
“The Biden administration propped him up, but the Trump administration will see through him,” Medvedev claimed.
Trump’s sharp criticism of Zelenskyy plays directly into the Kremlin’s messaging. Moscow has long sought to undermine Zelenskyy’s legitimacy, with Russian President Vladimir Putin repeatedly claiming that his presidency is invalid because Ukraine did not hold elections in 2024 due to martial law.
Last week, Trump echoed this narrative, labeling Zelenskyy a “dictator without elections.”
Ukraine and Europe on Edge Over Trump-Putin Relations
The White House rift has rattled Kyiv and its European allies, who fear that Trump could negotiate directly with Putin in a deal that sidelines Ukraine.
As Moscow works to strengthen ties with Trump’s new administration, the fallout from the Trump-Zelenskyy clash only deepens concerns that Ukraine is losing its most crucial international supporter.
With tensions rising and Zelenskyy facing increasing pressure, Ukraine’s path forward appears more uncertain than ever. Whether Trump’s stance signals a broader shift in U.S. foreign policy remains to be seen, but for now, Russia is celebrating what it sees as a major win on the geopolitical chessboard.
