PM Modi sought attention to the issue of culture of seeking votes by distributing freebies in our country. He warned that this freebies culture is very dangerous for the development of the country.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi while inaugurating Bundelkhand Expressway on Saturday warned people not to fall in trap of ‘Rewari Culture’ or electoral freebies. He said that the trend is not good for development. His statement, however, created massive political outrage as many leaders from opposition parties slammed the statement.
Addressing the people of Bundelkhand, PM Modi sought attention to the issue of culture of seeking votes by distributing freebies in our country. He warned that this freebies culture is very dangerous for the development of the country. People of the country have to be very careful with this freebies culture. He said that those with freebies culture will never build new expressways, new airports or defence corridors for you. The people of freebies culture feel that they can buy the votes by distributing freebies to the common man.
PM Modi urged to defeat this thinking collectively and remove freebies culture from the politics of the country. He said that now the government is working on solid projects of providing amenities like pucca houses, railway lines, roads and infrastructure, irrigation, electricity projects away from this ‘rewari culture’. Double-engine governments are not adopting the short-cut of freebies and delivering through hard work”, he said.
PM’s statement drew flack as Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav said, “If the ruling people who run the campaign of thank you by distributing Rewari, give employment to the youth, then they can avoid the ‘blaming culture’. Is the word Revdi unparliamentary?”
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “Making children’s future, giving good treatment to people free of cost, providing facilities to the public with public money are not free raweries. Let me tell you what the free ravadis are. There are two types of politics going on in the country today. Honest politics and politics of corruption. In Delhi, we work honestly and provide facilities to the people by saving money. Politics of Corruption, such people forgive thousands of crores of loans of their friends, get contracts.”
He further said that only one purpose of my life is that want to make India number one country in the world. One day we will give good education to every child of the country free of cost, from this the foundation of a strong country will be laid.
