Mumbai: A passenger train collided with a goods train in Maharashtra’s Gondia early on Wednesday, resulting in the derailment of three coaches. The accident left over 50 passengers injured. There were no reports of casualties.
According to railway officials, the accident took place around 2.30 am when the passenger train was on its way to Jodhpur in Rajasthan from Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. Preliminary reports suggest the accident took place due to signalling issues.
Reports also suggest that the driver of the passenger train applied brakes but could not stop the train from ramming into the goods train. Later, the passenger train left the accident spot at 5.24 am and reached the Gondia station at 5.44 am, a statement issued by the railways said.
