New Delhi: Target 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP on Friday inducted leaders removed as Chief Ministers and central ministers into new roles in the party.
From former Union minsters Mahesh Sharma and Prakash Javadekar to ousted Chief Ministers Vijay Rupani, Biplab Kumar Deb, several leaders were assigned new roles in the states across the country.
While Biplab Deb has been made the in-charge of Haryana, Vijay Rupani was given Punjab. Prakash Javadekar was asked to handle Kerala. Earlier in charge of Haryana, Vinod Tawde will now look after the post of party general secretary in Bihar.
Meanwhile, Om Mathur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s confidante, has been given an additional charge of Chhattisgarh although he was recently named for the powerful Central Election Committee. Chhattisgarh will go to polls next year and the BJP is looking to oust the Congress government.
Bihar’s Mangal Pandey has been given charge of West Bengal where the party is desperately looking to make a cut. However, Pandey will have to work along with Sunil Bansal who also has charge of Odisha and Telangana.
Sources said, the main job of the new entrants in the post will be to expand the party base in the states and subsequently, winning the polls. Notably, some of the state in charges have been retained such as Arun Singh in Rajasthan and Murlidhar Rao in Madhya Pradesh. In Jharkhand, Laximant Vajpayee has been given the task to take the party forward while Mahesh Sharma will look after Tripura.
Sambit Patra, a prominent face of the BJP, will don the role of coordinator for the northeastern states. Party national secretary Rituraj Sinha will be joint coordinator.
