Mamata Banerjee Durga Puja Grant 2025 | In a key move ahead of the festive season, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday announced that the state government will provide a financial grant of ₹1.10 lakh to each of the approximately 40,000 Durga Puja committees across the state. This marks a significant increase from last year’s grant of ₹85,000.
Addressing a gathering of Durga Puja organisers, Banerjee said the state aims to assist organisers in hosting Bengal’s largest cultural festival with ease. “The government stands by the people. Durga Puja is not just a religious celebration; it is a cultural festival that unites everyone. We want to ensure the organisers can manage expenses without stress,” she said.
No Taxes from Civic Agencies, Migrant Workers’ Welfare Urged
Alongside the enhanced grant, Banerjee declared that civic agencies, including the Fire Brigade, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), panchayats, and municipalities would not levy any taxes or service charges on the Puja committees.
Calling upon Puja organisers to embrace social responsibility, she urged support for migrant workers returning to West Bengal. “I would request Puja committees to help the migrants who are coming back after being tortured. Let’s come together and offer them relief and respect,” Banerjee said.

The Chief Minister has previously raised concerns about the treatment of West Bengal migrant workers in BJP-ruled states. With Durga Puja being recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, the state government’s enhanced financial support is expected to ease the burden on organisers and strengthen community participation.
