The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday released its second list of 12 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly Election, fielding popular folk singer Maithili Thakur from Alinagar. The decision signals the party’s intent to leverage her cultural appeal to consolidate support in Mithilanchal.
The inclusion of Thakur — a well-known playback and folk singer with a significant following in Bihar and across the Maithili-speaking diaspora — is expected to energize BJP’s campaign in Alinagar. Her nomination marks a high-profile entry into state politics just weeks before polling.
The second list of 12 candidates also includes Ram Chandra Prasad from Hayaghat, Rajan Kumar from Muzaffarpur, Subhash Singh from Gopalganj, Vinay Kumar Singh from Sonepur, and Siyaram Singh from Barh.
“This list reflects the BJP’s commitment to a strong, broad-based representation across Bihar,” party leaders said at the press conference.
The fresh list of candidates comes a day after the BJP announced its first list of 71 candidates, which featured top leaders including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary from Tarapur and Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha from Lakhisarai.
The move is part of the party’s phased strategy to cover all 243 Assembly constituencies as the election campaign intensifies across the state.
Polling and Counting Schedule
The Bihar Assembly Election 2025 will be held in two phases — on November 6 and November 11. Counting of votes is scheduled for November 14, when the electoral fate of candidates like Maithili Thakur will be decided.
The election is expected to see high voter turnout, with alliances and individual personalities playing a decisive role.
