Kolkata: According to media reports, a 49-year-old Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader from West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district was shot dead by a group on assailants.
The TMC leader was identified as Bijan Das. The police said he was on his way to a colleague’s house when the murder took place.

The murder took place in Ashoknagar, the police said. They added that it happened after an altercation between the TMC leader and the men over a land deal.
Barasat MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar visited the hospital. Later, speaking to the media, she said, “Bijan Das was shot at twice from close range. One bullet hit his head while the other went through his ear.”
Das was the deputy head of the Guma 1 panchayat. “His loss is irreparable,” said Ghosh Dastidar.
