Russia’s Klyuchevskoy volcano, located in the country’s Far East, erupted spectacularly on Wednesday, mere hours after a major earthquake shook the region, triggering mass evacuations and tsunami alerts along the Pacific coast.
According to a statement by the Russian Geophysical Survey, “The Klyuchevskoy is erupting right now,” as posted on their official Telegram channel. The survey shared dramatic photographs capturing an intense orange blaze at the volcano’s summit, confirming that “red-hot lava is observed flowing down the western slope.”
Eyewitness visuals and scientific reports describe a fiery glow illuminating the night sky above the volcano, accompanied by strong volcanic explosions, signaling a significant escalation in activity.

The eruption follows a massive earthquake that shook Russia’s Pacific coastline, resulting in widespread emergency responses. While officials have not yet confirmed a direct link between the seismic event and the volcanic activity, the back-to-back natural incidents have caused heightened alert across the region.
