Union Minister Kiren Rijiju today voiced serious concerns over the alleged connections between Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Hungarian-American businessman George Soros. Speaking on the issue, Rijiju emphasized that this matter should not be viewed through a political lens and urged a collective stance against what he described as “anti-India forces.”
“It is an important issue that I want to raise without politicizing it. The links between Sonia Gandhi and George Soros are serious. We do not want to look at it from a political perspective,” Rijiju stated, stressing the gravity of the situation.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has previously alleged that Sonia Gandhi is associated with organizations funded by Soros’s Open Society Foundations, which, according to them, have backed controversial positions, including treating Kashmir as a separate entity. The BJP further pointed to Gandhi’s former role as co-president of the Forum of Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation, which allegedly supported views favoring Kashmir’s independence.
Additionally, the BJP highlighted ties between the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and Soros-linked organizations, claiming these associations could indicate foreign influence in India’s internal affairs. Rijiju expressed his concern, stating, “We want to run parliament. While some issues are politically driven, if external powers are trying to undermine India, that is a serious issue.”

Despite these allegations, Rijiju made it clear that the government had no intention of interfering in the Congress party’s internal matters. However, he noted that within the INDIA alliance, questions were being raised about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s leadership abilities. “If Rahul Gandhi is unable to lead the INDIA bloc, that is their internal issue, but we have heard that they are not on the same page,” he said.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey also weighed in on the matter, announcing plans to question Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in Parliament about the alleged ties. Dubey accused Soros and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) of collaborating with opposition leaders to destabilize India’s economy and tarnish the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
In response to the BJP’s accusations, opposition leaders rejected the claims. Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav dismissed the allegations, calling them a standard tactic by the BJP. “It has become a habit of BJP to make false accusations. None of their allegations have turned out to be true,” Yadav stated.
RJD MP Manoj Jha also criticized the BJP’s focus on conspiracy theories, urging the government to investigate the matter. “When the government and its leadership delve into conspiracy theories, it suggests they may be trying to hide something. If they are serious, they should investigate,” Jha asserted.
The controversy continues to unfold as the BJP and opposition parties engage in a war of words over the alleged connections between Sonia Gandhi and George Soros.
