Srinagar: A television artist was gunned down and her nephew injured in an attack by suspected militants in Kashmir’s Budgam district Wednesday evening.
The attack came on a day when an NIA court in Delhi sentenced separatist Yasin Malik to life imprisonment in a case of terror funding.
In a tweet, the J&K police said, “At around 1955 hours, terrorists fired upon one lady Amreen Bhat D/O Khazir Mohd Bhat R/O Hushroo Chadoora at her home. She was shifted to hospital in injured condition where doctors declared her dead. Her 10-year-old nephew who was also at home received bullet injury in his arm.”
It added, “Three terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT were involved in this heinous terror incident. Area has been cordoned off and search started. Case registered and investigation on. @JmuKmrPolice.”

The attack on Bhat had come a day after two separate encounters in J&K’s Bandipora and Anantnag districts. The targeted killings had started in October last year, the victims being mostly migrants from outside Jammu and Kashmir who came in search of jobs and indigenous Kashmiri pandits.
