A 23-year-old Indian student, Nitheesha Kandula, is missing in California, USA, and authorities have sought public assistance to locate her. Kandula, a student at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), was last seen in Los Angeles on May 28 and was reported missing on May 30.
John Guttierez, Chief of Police at CSUSB, issued an alert on social media platform X, requesting anyone with information to contact the police.
Nitheesha Kandula is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing around 160 pounds, with black hair and black eyes. She was possibly driving a 2021 Toyota Corolla with an unknown colour and California license plate.
The CSUSB Police Department can be contacted at (909) 538-7777, and the LAPD’s Southwest Division at (213) 485-2582 for any information regarding her whereabouts.

This incident is part of a concerning pattern involving missing Indian students in the United States. Last month, 26-year-old Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakind was reported missing in Chicago.
In April, 25-year-old Mohammad Abdul Arfath, missing since March, was found dead in Cleveland, Ohio. Earlier this year, other tragic incidents involving Indian students and professionals in the US included the shooting death of 34-year-old Amarnath Ghosh in St. Louis, Missouri, and the death of 23-year-old Sameer Kamath in a nature preserve in Indiana.
Additionally, Vivek Taneja, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT executive, suffered life-threatening injuries in Washington, and 18-year-old Akul Dhawan from the University of Illinois died due to hypothermia exacerbated by alcohol intoxication.
These incidents have raised significant concerns within the Indian community in the United States, highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by students and professionals living abroad.
