The following are key points to note:
* The 19 km long Haryana section of the 8 lane Dwarka Expressway. It will also provide direct connectivity to the IGI Airport in Delhi and Gurugram Bypass.
*The Dwarka Expressway’s Delhi segment, situated near the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, features an eight-lane, 3.6km tunnel, with a section designed to withstand blasts. This tunnel serves to mitigate security concerns and minimize interference with airport radar systems. It is capable of accommodating heavy traffic, estimated at around 40,000 vehicles daily, and is equipped with emergency exits and a dedicated control room.
*Constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 4,100 crore, the Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway comprises two segments: the 10.2-km stretch from Delhi-Haryana Border to Basai Rail-over-Bridge (ROB) and the 8.7-km stretch from Basai ROB to Kherki Daula.
*The expressway’s construction is divided into four phases, encompassing sections from Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur to Bijwasan (5.9km), Bijwasan ROB to the Delhi-Haryana border in Gurgaon (4.2km), the Delhi-Haryana border to Basai ROB (10.2km) in Haryana, and Basai to the Kherki Daula cloverleaf interchange (8.7km).
*The project’s foundation stone was laid on March 9, 2019, by former Union ministers Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, and Nitin Gadkari.
PM Modi hailed the completion of the Dwarka Expressway as emblematic of his government’s commitment to converting challenges into opportunities for growth. He reminisced about the area’s previous reputation for being unsafe, particularly after dark. However, the expressway has now transformed the region into a thriving corporate hub, contributing to the rapid development of the National Capital Region (NCR).
The Prime Minister underscored the strategic significance of the Dwarka Expressway, particularly its connection to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. He stressed that such infrastructure projects play a vital role in enhancing connectivity, thereby stimulating economic activities and fostering better integration within the NCR.
Modi lauded the efforts of the Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in ensuring the timely completion of key infrastructure initiatives. He praised their dedication to modernizing the state’s infrastructure, a crucial component of the vision for a prosperous Haryana and a prosperous India.
The Prime Minister reiterated his government’s comprehensive approach to infrastructure development in the Delhi-NCR region. He highlighted the importance of timely completion of major projects such as the Dwarka Expressway, Peripheral Expressways, and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. These initiatives, alongside the expansion of metro networks and the establishment of international airports, aim to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce pollution in the area. Modi emphasized that the 21st-century India embodies ambitious visions and goals.
