New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a significant milestone with the successful flight tests of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile on February 28 and 29.
The tests, conducted from a ground-based portable launcher off the coast of Odisha at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, demonstrated the system’s capability to neutralize high-speed unmanned aerial targets across various interception scenarios.
During the trials, which were witnessed by officials from the Indian Army, senior scientists from DRDO laboratories, and industry partners, the VSHORADS missiles intercepted and destroyed their targets, effectively meeting the mission objectives.

The missile incorporates cutting-edge technologies, including a miniaturized Reaction Control System (RCS) and integrated avionics, all of which were successfully validated during the flight tests.
Propelled by a dual-thrust solid motor, the VSHORADS missile is specifically designed to neutralize low-altitude aerial threats at short ranges, with its design optimized for easy portability.
Congratulating DRDO, the Indian Army, and the industry partners involved in the successful development trials, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh emphasized that this new missile, equipped with modern technologies, will provide a significant technological boost to the armed forces.
Secretary DD R&D and Chairman DRDO praised the entire team involved in the design and development of the missile, recognizing their efforts in achieving this remarkable feat.
With these successful flight tests, the VSHORADS missile system marks a significant advancement in India’s indigenous defence capabilities, further bolstering the country’s security infrastructure.
