Hyderabad: In Hyderabad today, it is a battle of perspectives, a battle of political differences and a greater battle of ownership revolving around the 75th year of merger of Hyderabad into the Indian union. And surprisingly, the day has brought together the anti-BJP parties on one platform, against the saffron camp’s attempts to score brownie points by tingling sentiments.

While the ruling disposition led by Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) is celebrating the day as the ‘Telangana National Integration Day’, barely a few kilometres away Union Home Minister Amit Shah is observing the day as the ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’.

Not naming anybody, working president of TRS K T Rama Rao tweeted, “74 years ago, A Union Home Minister came to UNITE & INTEGRATE The People of Telangana into Indian union. Today A Union Home Minister has come to DIVIDE &  BULLY. The People of Telangana & their state Govt. That’s why I say, India needs DECISIVE POLICIES Not DIVISIVE POLITICS.”

The day saw separate events being celebrated. While Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao unfurled the national flag at the Public Gardens in Hyderabad, Shah hoisted the Tricolour at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.

Amid claims, attacks and counter attacks, Shah said those who promised to celebrate the liberation of Hyderabad have turned their back after coming to power “due to the fear of ‘Razakars’ and vote bank politics”.

KCR’s daughter and Member of Legislative Council Kavitha Kalvakuntla took to Twitter and wrote, “Going by their usual and repetitive script and formula of “Election-Celebration”, the BJP is trying to hijack ‘Hyderabad Integration Day’ celebrations in the state. The script where everything is promised and when the people of the State reject them, they deprive.”

She added, “While the Hon’ble Home Minister is here in Hyderabad today, I request him to talk about BJP and its leaders’ contribution to the Independence movement, Hyderabad Integration movement, Telangana Movement. As the daughter of Telangana, I look forward to these answers.” In the same thread she tweeted, “The contribution of the BJP towards efforts to give people their rights for our country stands to be nothing. Harmony, togetherness, and the power of people – this is the foundation of Telangana and CM KCR and it takes a lot of courage to be him.”

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, “The word liberation is wrong. Hyderabad was and will remain an integral part of India. It should be celebrated as Integration Day: AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on BJP to celebrate ‘Telangana National Liberation Day’ on September 17.”

A video tweet shared by his party quoted Owaisi and said, “Jo Razaakaar thae wo Pakistan chale gaye, aur jo Wafadaar the aaj bhi @narendramodi ki aankh’on mein aankhein daal kar Tiranga uthaa kar apne Huqooq ki ladaai lad rahe hain (The Razaakaars have left for Pakistan and wafadaars look Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his eyes and carry the Tricolour and fight for their rights.)”

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Revanth Reddy also took to Twitter and wrote, “Happy Independence Day to my Telangana nation. Our foundations are laid. His Highness “Sardar” Patel…Some historyless people who have no history, It is shameful to try to steal a part of our history and present it as their history.”
