Azad’s confidante, G M Saroori said the main motive of the party would be to restore the pre-August 5, 2019 position of Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu: A day after Ghulam Nabi Azad quit the Congress, his close aide said the seasoned politician will launch his own party and the first unit will come up in Jammu and Kashmir in a fortnight.
Azad’s confidante, G M Saroori said the main motive of the party would be to restore the pre-August 5, 2019 position of Jammu and Kashmir. Saroori, who quit the Congress on Friday in solidarity with Azad, said there is no question on working at the behest of the BJP and that Azad is ideologically secular.
Talking to the media, Saroori said, “Azad is coming to Jammu on September 4 to hold consultations with his well-wishers before the launch of our new party.”

On Friday, hours after he resigned, Azad had said he would launch a new party. “I am in no hurry as of now to launch a national party but keeping in mind that elections are likely to be held in Jammu and Kashmir, I have decided to launch a unit there soon,” Azad had told PTI.
Saroori further said, “A beeline of leaders (from Jammu and Kashmir) are coming to meet Ghulam Nabi Azad to extend their support. Hundreds of resignation letters have been received from PRI members, including district and block development council members, and several municipal corporators.”.
On Friday, after Azad announced his departure from the Congress, five leaders — Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Haji Abdul Rashid, Mohammad Amin Bhatt, Gulzar Ahmad Wani and Chaudhary Akram Mohammad — resigned from the primary membership of the party in his support. Another Congress leader Salman Nizami also announced to leave the party in support of Azad.
