Achieving milestone in the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive, India had on July 17 crossed 200 crore doses.
New Delhi: Accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of Covid-19 vaccination throughout the country, Centre has provided more than 203.03 crore vaccine doses to the states and union territories (UTs). The central government has been making vaccine doses available free of cost channel and through direct state procurement category.
The government has informed that more than 3.70 crore balance and unutilized Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered.
The nationwide Covid-19 vaccination started on 16th January 2021. The new phase of universalization of Covid-19 vaccination commenced from 21st June 2021. The vaccination drive has been ramped up through availability of more vaccines, advance visibility of vaccine availability to States and UTs for enabling better planning by them, and streamlining the vaccine supply chain.

Terming it a major milestone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated the people. PM Modi, in a tweet, had said, “India creates history again! Congrats to all Indians on crossing the special figure of 200 crore vaccine doses. Proud of those who contributed to making India’s vaccination drive unparalleled in scale and speed. This has strengthened the global fight against COVID-19.”
As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, Centre has been supporting the states and UTs by providing them Covid vaccines free of cost. In the new phase of the universalization of the Covid vaccination drive, the Union Government will procure and supply (free of cost) 75 per cent of the vaccines being produced by the vaccine manufacturers in the country to states and UTs.
