A gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Tangmarg area of Kulgam district following information about the presence of terrorists there. An encounter broke out after the terrorists opened fire on the security personnel, they said.
No casualties have been reported in the exchange of fire so far, the officials said adding further details were awaited.
Security heightened across Kashmir after Pahalgam
In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, security has been significantly ramped up across the Kashmir Valley. The Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police have launched a joint combing operation in the region. Additional checkpoints have been set up along highways and in other sensitive zones, while quick reaction teams have been deployed near critical infrastructure and popular tourist destinations.

Two terrorists killed in an another encounter in J&K’s Baramulla
Meanwhile, the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps — responsible for operations in the Kashmir Valley — reported an ongoing encounter in Baramulla district. The firefight broke out earlier in the day after two unidentified terrorists attempted to infiltrate through the Sarjeevan area near Uri Nala.

“The alert troops on the Line of Control (LC) intercepted the infiltrators, resulting in a heavy exchange of fire,” the Army said in a post on X. “Two terrorists have been neutralized and the infiltration bid has been successfully foiled. A large cache of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like material has been recovered. The operation is still underway.”
