Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, announced that he has postponed his planned trip to India due to “very heavy Tesla obligations.” He was scheduled to visit India and meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce investment plans for his businesses.
Elon Musk confirmed the delay on Twitter, stating that he looks forward to visiting later this year.
“Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year,” Musk said.
Musk’s visit was anticipated to mark breakthroughs for Tesla and Starlink, a satellite internet operator he owns. Tesla is reportedly seeking newer markets amid sales slowdowns in the US and China, with India being among the potential markets. The Indian government’s recent tax reductions on imported cars for companies investing locally have further sparked interest from Tesla.
Additionally, Starlink is expected to receive initial approvals to operate in India. The Indian government recently announced changes to its foreign direct investment policy in the space sector to liberalize entry routes for offshore investors in Indian companies.
