Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, has been battling a fever and throat infection for the past two days, according to his family doctor. The doctor confirmed that Shinde is now recovering with the help of medical treatment and is under the care of a team of doctors in his native village in Satara district, Maharashtra.
According to the reports, Shinde’s family physician, provided an update on his health stating that the Chief Minister has been experiencing fever, body pain, cold, and a throat infection but is showing signs of improvement. “He is doing fine now. We have administered antibiotics, and a team of three to four doctors is attending to him,” Patre added.
Shinde had traveled to Satara on Friday to recuperate, following his illness. Despite his health issues, there is ongoing political activity in the state with the upcoming oath-taking ceremony of the Mahayuti government, which is set to take place on December 5. BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule confirmed on Saturday that the ceremony would occur at 5 PM at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend the event.
In a post on X, Bawankule emphasized the importance of the ceremony, writing, “The oath-taking ceremony of the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra will be held in the presence of the pride of the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 5 PM at Azad Maidan, Mumbai.”

Amid the political developments, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat commented that Shinde is expected to make a crucial decision by Sunday. Shirsat hinted that the Chief Minister could make an important political move soon, with details on the allocation of ministries to allies to be clarified by Monday evening. “Everything will be clear by Monday evening,” he stated, adding that preparations for the ceremony were ongoing.
Earlier in the week, Shinde, along with other Mahayuti leaders such as Devendra Fadnavis, NCP’s Ajit Pawar, and several BJP leaders, had met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi. The meeting came after the November 23 election results, in which the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a decisive victory. While the BJP emerged as the largest party with 132 seats in the 280-member Maharashtra Assembly, the Shiv Sena, led by Shinde, and NCP, under Pawar’s leadership, secured 57 and 41 seats, respectively. The announcement of the Chief Ministerial candidate is still pending.
