Durgapur gangrape case updates: In a major development in the Durgapur gangrape case, the West Bengal Police on Tuesday afternoon reconstructed the crime scene with the five accused and the friend of the victim. The move comes as part of an ongoing, high-intensity investigation that has drawn significant local and national attention.
The reconstruction took place in a jungle near the private medical college, where the survivor is a student, marking a critical step in corroborating statements and gathering forensic evidence.
Crime Scene Reconstruction in Presence of IPS Officer
“They were taken to the crime spot for reconstruction of the crime scene. The entire process was videographed in the presence of an IPS officer. We will corroborate their version with that of the victim,” a senior investigating officer said.
The accused and the victim’s friend were escorted under heavy security to the spot. Before the reconstruction, investigating officers questioned the victim’s friend for nearly an hour, focusing on the timeline of events leading up to the assault.
Investigators confirmed that they are also probing the role of the victim’s friend, with whom she had gone outside the college campus for dinner before the incident.
The second-year student, originally from Jaleswar in Odisha, was allegedly raped outside the private medical college campus in Durgapur on Friday night. The case has triggered serious concerns about student safety and campus security.
Search Operations at Accused Residences
Earlier in the day, two of the five arrested accused were taken to their respective residences as part of evidence-gathering measures. Police officials said the search aimed to find evidence linked to the crime which they may have concealed.
During the search, police seized a few clothes from the homes of the two accused, allegedly worn by them on the night of the crime.

The mobile phones seized from all five accused have been sent for forensic tests. Police are also questioning fellow students of the victim as part of the broader probe into the incident.
Later in the day, the five accused will be taken for medical examination, the officer added, underlining that the investigation is moving on multiple fronts to establish the sequence of events and secure evidence.
