In his first global address after becoming the US President for the second time, Donald Trump delivered a firm message at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, urging businesses worldwide to manufacture their products in the United States. Trump highlighted the promise of “the lowest taxes of any nation on Earth” for those who comply, while warning of tariffs for companies that choose otherwise.
Trump’s Push for Domestic Manufacturing
“My message to every business in the world is very simple. Come make your product in America, and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on Earth,” Trump stated. “But if you don’t, then very simply, you will have to pay a tariff.”

The President hinted at applying tariffs “across the board,” with rates differing depending on the country or industry. These import taxes, he claimed, would direct “hundreds of billions of dollars, even trillions, into our treasury to strengthen our economy and pay down debt.”
Tariffs on Key Trade Partners
Trump has consistently voiced his intent to levy tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, China, and the European Union. In his speech, he criticized traditional allies, including Canada, for the U.S. trade deficit. “Canada, we have a tremendous deficit with Canada. We’re not going to have that anywhere,” he said.

The President reiterated his focus on economic growth through tariffs, deregulation, and further tax cuts, building on his previous tax reforms. He pledged to lower global oil prices, interest rates, and inflation.
“I’ll demand that interest rates drop immediately. And likewise, they should be dropping all over the world,” Trump said during his video conference. Additionally, he announced plans to work with Saudi Arabia and OPEC to reduce oil prices, emphasizing the United States’ vast reserves of oil and gas.
Focus on AI, Cryptocurrency, and Fossil Fuels
Positioning the U.S. as a leader in emerging technologies, Trump highlighted his commitment to artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, and the continued use of fossil fuels. “The United States has the largest amount of oil and gas of any country on Earth, and we’re going to use it,” he declared.
Criticism of EU and Davos Priorities
Trump dismissed European Union taxation policies and criticized longstanding Davos priorities, including climate change and diversity. His remarks underscore a stark departure from global consensus, focusing instead on unilateral economic strategies to benefit the U.S.
