Kelly Allen, a 45-year-old resident of Swansea, is in the process of recovery following a traumatic dog attack that has left her physically and emotionally scarred.

The dog attack, which occurred in March while she was visiting a friend’s house, has left her with a facial scar and significant psychological trauma, as reported by The Metro.

According to Allen, the attack was sudden and unprovoked. A dachshund, initially friendly, suddenly turned aggressive, latching onto her cheek and tearing off a chunk of flesh. The dog proceeded to consume the flesh before releasing its grip, also inflicting a bite wound on her arm during the struggle.

Following the dog attack, Allen received urgent medical attention at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, where she underwent a lengthy five-and-a-half-hour surgery. The procedure involved a skin graft from her neck to repair the facial wound. Meanwhile, authorities removed the dog from the property, and it was later euthanised.

Recounting her harrowing experience, Allen expressed profound distress, stating, “I can’t get out of bed, and I’ve been crying in my sleep because I feel his teeth in me.” The physical scarring after the dog attack has had a profound impact on her life, exacerbating post-traumatic stress, anxiety and social interaction difficulties. Furthermore, the incident has hindered her ability to return to work at a contact centre.

The emotional and financial toll of the ordeal is evident as Allen navigates her recovery journey. She faces mounting expenses for medical treatment, living costs and ongoing psychological support. In a bid to seek justice and compensation for her injuries and lost income, Allen is pursuing legal action, a process anticipated to span several years.

In the face of these challenges, Allen’s sister initiated a GoFundMe campaign to alleviate some of the financial burdens. The campaign has garnered significant support, raising over 1,150 pounds to assist Allen during this trying time.

As Allen continues to heal physically and emotionally, her story serves as a reminder of the profound impact of dog attacks and the long-lasting repercussions they can have on individuals and their families.
