New Delhi: Finance Minister Atishi today tabled Economic Survey 2023-24 in Delhi assembly. The minister, while tabling the survey report, said that the economy of national capital has registered a record growth.
As far as economic scenario is concerned, GSDP of city at current prices during 2023-24 is likely to reach R 11,07,746 crore at a growth of 9.17% over 2022-23. The GSDP in 2022-23 was 10,14,000 crore. In post-COVID times, real GSDP grew at 8.76% in 2021-22 and 7.85% in 2022-23, faster than the rest of the country.
Delhi’s population constitutes 1.5% of India’s population, while GSDP contributes nearly 3.9% to India’s GDP. The Per Capita Income of Delhi was Rs 3,76,217 in 2021-22 which increased to Rs 4,61,910 in 2023-24. This is an increase of 22% in 2 years. Delhi’s per capita income is 2.5x of national per capita income.

Delhi’s inflation rate was 2.81% in between January and December 2023 while the national inflation rate was 5.65% in between January and December 2023. Unemployment rate in 2020-21 (post Covid) was 6.3%. It was 1.9% in 2022-23. Delhi Government Revenue and Budget Surplus: 1. Delhi’s tax collection has registered a growth of 18% during 2022-23 2. In 2021-22, the recorded a revenue surplus of 3,270 crores; which increased to 14,457 Crores in 2022-23. 3. The ratio of interest payment to revenue receipts declined to 5.21 percent in 2022-23 from the high ratio of 11.20 percent in 2012-13.
In a study of 3450 households conducted by the Department of Economics and Statistics, it was found that almost 100% benefited from free electricity at some point during the year, 76.1% benefited from free water, 64.7% benefited from free treatment in government hospitals and 58% benefited from free bus rides for women e. 43.7% benefited from free education. Besides this, 61.6% of the households had spent all the money saved due to freebies, while 28.4% invested the money in savings and FDs; and 7.2% planned to spend it in the near future, 2.8% have lent the extra money to friends. Out of all the people who had spent all their money, 50.7% households spent on food and beverages, 13.1% households spent on educational supplies, 10.1% households spent on medical treatment and medicines, 7.9% households spent on clothing and accessories, 7.3% households spent on new appliances, 6.7% for entertainment Education.
