New Delhi: A day after resignation of Election Commissioner (EC) Arun Goel, the Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday said that the resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goel right before the Lok Sabha elections is a major concern. A commissioner appointed by the BJP, whose appointment was defended by the BJP-led central government even in the Supreme Court, his resignation just before the Lok Sabha elections raises questions about the reason behind it.
AAP leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi said that said that today the entire country has one question: What manipulation did the BJP-led central government suggest in the elections that even their own person couldn’t do it, leading him to resign, considering it better to step down before completing his term until 2027?

She said that today the question is being raised: just as there was an attempt to rig the elections with Anil Masih in the Chandigarh mayoral elections, was Arun Goel also being instructed to do something similar? Challenging BJP, she stated that the BJP should explain to the entire country why Election Commissioner Arun Goel has resigned.

“Election Commissioner Arun Goel, whose term was until 2027, resigned just a few days before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. Arun Goel was the same person appointed by the BJP, and he was made Election Commissioner within 24 hours of his voluntary retirement. When his appointment was challenged in court, the honorable court also questioned the urgency, asking why there was such haste that the file was initiated and approved within just 24 hours,” she said.
She said that today the Election Commissioner, appointed by the BJP, who was their own person, and whose appointment was defended by the BJP-led central government in the Supreme Court, has resigned.
“Today the entire country is asking one question: What did the BJP-led central government instruct Election Commissioner Arun Goel to do? What kind of manipulation in the elections did they suggest that even their own person couldn’t carry out, leading to his resignation being considered a better option? The same BJP that appointed Anil Masih as the presiding officer in the Chandigarh mayoral elections, who cancelled INDIA Alliance’s 8 votes in front of the CCTV camera. Anil Masih had admitted in the Supreme Court that he had marked the ballot paper incorrectly. The Supreme Court called Anil Masih’s actions an “assassination of democracy,” she added.
Atishi said, “Today, I am challenging the BJP to tell the entire country why Arun Goel resigned. He was an Election Commissioner appointed by them, and his appointment was taken up to the Supreme Court by the BJP. What wrongdoing did they instruct him to do in the Lok Sabha elections that even their own person couldn’t carry out, leading him to resign before completing his term until 2027 without any health issues?”
