New Delhi: Moments after the Centre announced the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in India, a video went viral on social media platforms showcasing the exuberance among Hindu refugees from Pakistan living in Delhi.
The clip, which is barely a minute-long, shows young men and women, all Hindu refugees from Pakistan, dancing, people raising “Bharat Mata ki Jay” slogans and emotional hugs. Some even had tears in their eyes.
In a different video, similar scenes were caught at Majnu Ka Tila where exuberant people, mostly Hindu refugees from Pakistan, were seen dancing to dhol beats.

Meanwhile, netizens hailed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government’s move to implement the CAA and took to social media. A user commented, “Relief and hope find their way to the persecuted,” while another said, “Someone heard their voices”. A third said, “I am really happy for them after suffering for many year finally they have their new life ahead”.
The implementation of the CAA was pledged by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party before the 2019 Lok Sabha election, yet the specific regulations had not been officially announced.
The CAA facilitates the process for non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan to obtain Indian citizenship. It applies to individuals who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.

In a notification, the MHA had earlier said, “The CAA does not apply to Indian citizens. They are completely unaffected by it. It seeks to grant Indian citizenship to particular foreigners who have suffered persecution on grounds of their religion in three neighbouring countries.”
