His decision follows the recent announcement of candidates for five constituencies by the Delhi BJP, which notably includes Praveen Khandelwal from the Chandni Chowk seat.
Having served as a five-time MLA and two-time MP from the area, Vardhan held significant roles as Union Minister of Health and Union Environment Minister.
Expressing his intention to possibly return to his roots as an ENT surgeon and resume his clinic in Krishna Nagar, East Delhi, he bid farewell to his prolonged electoral career, marked by victories in all five assembly and two parliamentary elections with substantial margins.

He revealed that his entry into politics was spurred by the encouragement of RSS leadership, driven by the ethos of Deen Dayal Upadhyay’s Antodaya philosophy, which emphasizes serving the most marginalized.
Praveen Khandelwal, the chosen candidate for Chandni Chowk, brings a background in business and holds the position of General Secretary at the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). Noteworthy for his advocacy on issues like GST and the encroachment of foreign e-commerce entities into local markets, Khandelwal also held the role of treasurer within the BJP’s Delhi unit.
