The passenger, visibly upset, asked if anyone would consume such food, especially in the presence of vulnerable family members like his 80-year-old grandfather. He also complained about the curd served with the meal, describing it as sour.
The passenger’s post included a copy of the complaint he filed with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). He detailed that a live cockroach was found in the daal, another dead cockroach in the food, and that the curd served was of poor quality.

The incident quickly went viral on social media, garnering over 102.7k views and sparking widespread outrage. Many expressed their shock and dismay at the state of food safety on one of India’s flagship trains.
One user questioned, “Why are they forcing people to eat such food? Let them order outside food through an online application that already delivers food on the train.” Another commented, ” This is the new initiative by the reel minister ……to provide Protein rich(insect protein) diet to rich people of india……this is new india sir”.
The incident has prompted many to rethink their reliance on food provided by Indian Railways, with one user summing up the sentiment by saying, “This is what you can actually see. Imagine what could be happening behind the curtains. I will never dare to consume Indian railway food.”
This incident comes on the heels of similar complaints, adding to the pressure on the IRCTC to ensure stricter food safety and hygiene protocols on trains.
