Patna: At least 33 persons died and several got displaced after incessant rains lashed parts of Bihar. While Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is learnt to have announced Rs 4 lakh compensation to the kin of those who died, his office said an assessment of the damages will be done to roll out compensations.
Taking to Twitter, the Chief Minister said, “The death of 33 people in 16 districts of the state due to thunderstorm and lightning is unfortunate. Kin of those who died will be given Rs 4 lakh immediate compensation. Instructions were also given to give an ex-gratia to those who lost properties, including agricultural fields. I appeal to the people to maintain full vigil during bad weather. Follow the suggestions issued by the Disaster Management Department from time to time to protect yourself from thunderstorms. Stay home and stay safe in bad weather.”

Conveying his grief, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I am deeply saddened that so many people have died in the incidents of thunderstorm and lightning in many districts of Bihar. May God give strength to the bereaved families to bear this immense loss. The local administration under the supervision of the state government is actively engaged in relief and rescue work.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “The loss of life due to strong storm and lightning in different districts of Bihar is very sad. I express my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones due to this natural calamity. The local administration is diligently engaged in providing all possible help to the victims.”
