Bangladesh Earthquake | Tremors Felt in Kolkata | Updates: Mild tremors were felt across Kolkata and several parts of eastern India on Friday morning after a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Bangladesh. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake occurred at 10:08 am (IST) with its epicentre located 10 km east-southeast of Dhaka, 14 km from Narsingdi.
Residents in Kolkata reported feeling light swaying, with fans, hanging lights, and wall fixtures visibly moving for a few seconds.
Shortly after the tremors, people in several neighbourhoods, including Salt Lake, exited their homes and office buildings as a precaution.
Social media users shared visuals showing groups of people gathered in open spaces.

So far, officials have confirmed that no injuries or casualties have been reported, and emergency teams are on alert as data continues to come in.
Meanwhile, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan on Thursday at a shallow depth of 10 km, the NCS said. Shallow quakes often produce stronger shaking because seismic waves reach the surface faster, increasing the likelihood of damage.
The region—including Afghanistan, Pakistan, and northern India—lies along one of the most seismically active fault zones in the world where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide, making moderate earthquakes frequent and often felt across borders.
