Shah had on Tuesday promised reservation in education and jobs as Scheduled Tribe (ST) for the Pahari community.
Jammu: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday vowed to wipe out terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir. Shah, while addressing a rally at Baramullah, said that 42000 lives have been lost due to terrorism since 90s in the state. He also ruled out any further talk with Pakistan.
“We will talk to the people of Baramulla, we will talk to the people of Kashmir. Why would we talk to Pakistan? We will not talk with them. People who were in power for 70 years are saying to talk to Pakistan,” Shah said. “We want to make the state the most peaceful in the country,” he added.
He also slammed the Abdullahs (National Conference), Muftis (PDP) and Nehru-Gandhi (Congress) for not ensuring proper development of Jammu and Kashmir. These three have ruled in Jammu and Kashmir since the country’s independence in 1947.
“Since 2014, we have made nine medical colleges. Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdullah, however, built four medical colleges. We have ensured electricity connection in all villages and have made one lakh houses since 2014,” he added.
Shah had on Tuesday promised reservation in education and jobs as Scheduled Tribe (ST) for the Pahari community. Shah had made the announcement during his rally at Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. The move was being considered as a pre-poll promise aimed at widening the BJP’s support base. To implement the decision, the government will have to amend the Reservations Act in Parliament for it and it will be the first instance of a linguistic group earning reservation in the country.
Amit Shah had said that the GD Sharma commission set up by the government has sent the report and recommended reservation for Gujjar, Bakarwal and Pahari communities. It will be given soon. “He claimed such reservation became possible only after the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 was struck down. Now, minorities, Dalits, tribals, Paharis here will get their rights,” he had added.
