According to reports, weapons and cash worth Rs 24 lakh were recovered from Khan’s aides during the raids by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi Police.
New Delhi: Hours after quizzing him and conducting a raid at his home and five other locations, the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi Police Friday arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan after “incriminating material and evidences against him” were unearthed during the searches.
According to reports, weapons and cash worth Rs 24 lakh were recovered from Khan’s aides during the raids by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi Police.
The police said during the raid against Khan and his business partner Hamid Ali Khan Masood Usman, a beretta and some cartridges were seized. The weapon was seized during a raid at Kausar Imam Siddiqui’s home. Siddiqui is an AAP worker and a close associate of Amanatullah Khan.
Khan, an Okhla MLA, was summoned for questioning around 12 pm on Friday in connection with the case, which was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act in 2020. The Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board had on Thursday night posted a snide tweet about the summons and claimed that he has been called as he built a new office of the Waqf board.
The ACB reports to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, a representative of the BJP-led government at the Centre. The ACB had sent a notice to Khan to appear for questioning over allegations of illegal appointment in the Delhi Waqf Board. The Waqf Board oversees the administration of Islamic property dedicated to welfare causes.
Saxena had earlier cleared the way for the CBI to prosecute the Delhi Waqf Board Chairman in the case registered against him in 2016.
