Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday strongly criticised the opposition for targeting his late mother from a joint RJD-Congress platform in Bihar, calling it an affront to women across the country.

“Mother is our world. Mother is our self-respect. I had not even imagined what happened a few days ago in this tradition-rich Bihar. My mother was abused from the stage of RJD-Congress in Bihar,” Modi said while addressing a public programme.
“These abuses are not just an insult to my mother. These are insults to the mothers, sisters and daughters of the country. I know how bad all of you, every mother of Bihar, felt after seeing and hearing this. I know, as much pain as I have in my heart, the people of Bihar are also in the same pain,” he added.
Modi questioned why his mother, who had no political role, was dragged into partisan attacks. “My mother had nothing to do with politics, so why was she abused by the RJD and Congress?” he asked.
Focus on Women’s Empowerment in Bihar
The Prime Minister alleged that such abusive remarks reflect a mindset that sees women as weak. He said the incident occurred during Congress’ ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar and amounted to insulting not just him but every woman in India.

Speaking at the launch of a new cooperative initiative to promote entrepreneurship among rural women associated with self-help groups, Modi underlined the NDA government’s focus on empowering women in Bihar. “This new cooperative will become a strong platform for the daughters and sisters of Bihar to move forward,” he said.
