To revive the temple traditions across the country, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, as part of its Kala Pravah series, is organising the festival titled ‘Shakti: a Festival of Music and Dance’ during the auspicious Navaratri period, commencing on Tuesday, April 9.
In a statement, the Union Ministry of Culture said Navaratri, symbolising the power of nine goddesses, serves as the inspiration for this festival, which will celebrate temple traditions at seven different Shaktipeeths from April 9 to April 17 across various regions of the country.

The Shakti festival’s inauguration kicked off on Tuesday at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati and will continue at the Mahalakshmi Temple in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, the Jwalamukhi Temple in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, the Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, Tripura, the Ambaji Temple in Banaskantha, Gujarat, the Jai Durga Shaktipeeth in Deoghar, Jharkhand, and will conclude on April 17 at the Shaktipeeth Maa Harsidhi Temple in Jaisinghpur, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi, as the national academy of performing arts and an autonomous body of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has been dedicated to preserving, researching, promoting, and rejuvenating the country’s performing arts. This commitment encompasses music, dance, drama, folk and tribal art forms, and other related art forms of the nation.
