New Delhi: As many as 34 people have lost their lives in a mass shooting at a day-care on Thursday in Thailand. According to the reports, 22 children including a 2 years old were among those who died when a former policeman opened fire at the centre. The attacker also killed his wife, son and shot himself dead after committing the crime. “There are at least 34 dead but details are still coming in,” said the local authorities.
According to the reports, nearly 30 children were studying at a day care centre when the former policemen fired on them. A total of 22 children became victims of the firing as they succumbed. The centre where the incident took place is reportedly located at the town of Uthai Sawan in the northeastern province of Nong Bua Lamphu.
Police said that the attacker had been discharged from the police force last year. He first fired bullets on four or five staff, including a teacher who was eight months pregnant. Initially, people assumed the firing as fireworks.
Video viral on various social media platforms showed sheets covering what appeared to be the bodies of children lying in pools of blood at the centre. Immediately after the incident, the local agencies sounded alert and a manhunt was launched to nab the shooter. The top authorities including the Prime Minister had taken cognisance of the incident and had alerted all agencies to catch the culprit. A viral video showed a law enforcement agency searching for the accused.
In viral videos, families of the victims were seen mourning the deaths of their loved ones. Few were also seen escorting the injured ones to the ambulance.
