New Delhi: In the 17th Lok Sabha, which convened in 2019, of the 240 Bills that were introduced, only one was assented, revealed a data published by a joint data published by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch (NEW).
The data also showed that 222 Bills were passed, 11 others were withdrawn and six are still pending.
In a statement, the ADR said, “This report includes the analysis of 521 sitting members, ex-members, and the Anglo-Indian nominated members of the 17th Lok Sabha.”
In a detailed breakup of the figures, the ADR report showed that of the 222 Bills that were passed, 45 of them were passed on the day they were introduced. As many as 20 of them took at least one day to get passed, nine were passed in two days, 13 Bills in three days, 12 in four days and seven in five days.
The report added that 47 Bills of the 222 took more than 30 days to pass while 19 of them were passed in 11 to 30 days. Five Bills took 10 days to be passed and only two took nine days. Ten of them took eight days, 17 of them seven days and 16 of them took six days to get passed in the Lok Sabha.
The ADR also listed out the six Bills that were introduced but not passed. They are The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023, The Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022, The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021, The Pesticides Management Bill, 2020, The Maintenance & Welfare of Parents & Senior Citizens (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019.
The only Bill that was assented was The Offshore Areas Mineral (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2023.
