Chennai: Aatral Ashok Kumar, the AIADMK nominee vying for the Erode Lok Sabha seat, emerged as the wealthiest candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu scheduled for April 19, showed the disclosures made by the candidate to the Election Commission of India.
In a filed affidavit, Aatral Ashok Kumar disclosed his net assets amounting to Rs 583.48 crore, positioning him as a formidable contender in the electoral fray. His spouse, Karunambika, who is the daughter of BJP MLA Dr C Saraswathi representing Modakkurichi in Erode district, possesses assets valued at Rs 69.98 crore, as stated by Kumar.
A resident of Erode, at 53 years of age, Kumar said he has Rs 10 lakh in cash while his wife holds Rs 5 lakh. Additionally, both declared ownership of 10.1 kg and 10.6 kg of gold, respectively.
The bulk of Kumar’s movable assets tally up to Rs 526.53 crore, while his immovable assets, acquired through both means of purchase and inheritance, sum up to Rs 56.95 crore. His spouse’s movable assets are valued at Rs 47.38 crore, and her immovable property stands at Rs 22.60 crore. The couple holds no liabilities, according to the disclosed information.
Aatral Ashok Kumar boasts an extensive background as a founding member and director of The Indian Public School (TIPS) and Amex Alloys Private Limited. Furthermore, he spearheaded the establishment of educational institutions such as TIPS School of Architecture, TIPS School of Management, TIPS College of Arts and Science, and the TIPS Global Institute.
Aatral Ashok Kumar holds a degree in electrical engineering from Coimbatore and pursued further studies with a Master’s from the University of Louisville, Kentucky, USA, followed by an MBA from the University of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.
He garnered professional experience in various multinational corporations including Microsoft and Intel, before redirecting his efforts towards establishing educational ventures upon returning to India.
