Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec, who won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 in the 10m air pistol competition, has become a viral sensation for his unconventional “gearless” look.
Following his victory, several rumours circulated about Dikec’s background. One particularly popular narrative suggested that the 51-year-old took up shooting following a tumultuous divorce and that he was previously a mechanic. A Facebook post even claimed that Yusuf Dikec took a jibe at his former spouse while receiving his silver medal. However, this story was completely satirical.
In reality, as reported by People, Yusuf Dikec began shooting competitively in 2001 after being employed with the Gendarmerie General Command as a non-commissioned officer.
A seasoned athlete, he is a four-time Olympian, having competed in the 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 Games.

In an interview with Turkish broadcaster TGRT Haber, Yusuf Dikec detailed his distinctive shooting method, which he described as one of the “rare shooting techniques in the world.” His unique practice of shooting with both eyes open has even surprised referees. Yusuf Dikec attributed his success to intense training and dedication, stating, “This year we prepared a lot and worked a lot… this success belongs to all of Turkey.”
Looking ahead, Dikec is not resting on his laurels. He announced plans to compete in the Los Angeles Summer Games in 2028, alongside his teammate Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, signaling his continued commitment to the sport and ambition for future success.
