New Delhi: Even amid shocking videos of fierce battles between Russian and Ukrainian forces, a purported video of a Russian soldier who reportedly surrendered, being offered tea and food by the Ukranian civilians, is making netizens hail the people of Ukraine.
But what is melting hearts online is the gesture shown by the civilians in helping the soldier call up his mother back in Russia even as the stout Armyman breaks down.
The Russian soldier had reportedly surrendered on Ukrainian soil where hundreds of soldiers and civilians were killed since the war broke out.
The video, which is being circulated widely on social media platforms by peace-loving people, shows a woman holding a phone before the soldier through which he speaks to his mother. Before ending the call, the soldier is seen breaking down as his mother tries to console him telling him “everything will be okay, my son”. The Armyman then blows a kiss to his mother and the video comes to an end.
In the background, a civilian was heard saying, “These young men, it’s not their fault. They don’t know why they are here.”
Meanwhile, talking about the prisoners of war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, “These are not warriors of the superpower. These are confused children who were used. All the captives say only one thing — they do not know why they are here. Despite the fact that there are dozens of times more than them, the morale of the enemy is constantly deteriorating.”
