Footage released by the LAPD showed Singh performing Gatka, a traditional Sikh martial art. Police said he was armed with a machete, later identified as a khanda—a double-edged sword commonly used in Indian martial practices.
Pursuit and Confrontation Before Shooting
According to the LAPD, Singh abandoned his vehicle in the middle of the road and even attempted to slice his tongue during the standoff. “Officers gave multiple commands for Singh to drop the weapon,” the police stated.
Before fleeing, Singh threw a bottle at officers, then drove erratically until colliding with another police vehicle near Figueroa and 12th Streets. Police said he then charged at them with the blade, leading to officers opening fire.
