Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has named actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik Chakraborty and 33 others in the draft charges for buying drugs for deceased actor Sushant Singh Rajput who was found dead at his home in 2020.
The chargesheet said Rhea Chakraborty had financed and purchased a small quantity of marijuana. The agency also said she received and delivered the contraband. Earlier, Rhea Chakraborty had termed the allegations against her a “witch-hunt”. If Rhea Chakraborty is found guilty, she may face a jail term of 10 years.
NCB has charged the accused under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, including Sections 27 and 27 A (financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders) 28 (punishment for attempts to commit offences), 29 (whoever abets, or is a party to a criminal conspiracy), as per the draft charges.
The draft charges say “accused number 10 Rhea Chakroborty received many deliveries of ganja from accused Samuel Miranda, Showik, Dipesh Sawant and others and handed over those deliveries to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput”.
Actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at home, sparking off conspiracy theories that he was killed. The Bollywood industry was shaken up by the untimely death of the actor and so was the nation. The probe around his death is being conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation. While the police say it is a suicide and people smell a rat, it is yet to be found out how the actor died.
