After inaugurating Sudarshan Setu, India’s longest cable-stayed bridge in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dived into the Arabian Sea on Sunday and performed an underwater puja at the ancient site of Dwarka, which holds significant cultural and religious importance due to its association with Lord Krishna.
Dwarka, once a prosperous city, is believed to have submerged under the sea centuries ago.
Scuba diving activities are conducted off the coast of Dwarka near Beyt Dwarka island, providing visitors with the opportunity to witness the underwater remains of ancient Dwarka excavated by archaeologists.
Earlier today, PM Modi inaugurated the state’s longest cable-stayed bridge, the Sudarshan Setu, linking the towns of Okha and Beyt Dwarka island. The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 979 crore, spans 2.3 kilometers and stands as a testament to modern engineering prowess.
Originally known as the ‘Signature Bridge’, it has been renamed in honor of its cultural and spiritual significance, now adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna, reflecting the rich heritage of the region.
The Sudarshan Setu is not merely a structure of connectivity but a symbol of progress and development for the region. With four lanes and spacious footpaths on each side measuring 2.50 meters wide, the bridge not only facilitates smoother transportation but also ensures safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Its strategic location serves as a vital link between the old and new Dwarka, providing improved accessibility and promoting tourism in the area.
