A widespread Microsoft outage is causing severe disruptions across various sectors globally, from flights to supermarkets and banking operations. If not resolved soon, this could lead to massive issues. In India, major air carriers like Vistara, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air are experiencing technical problems affecting booking, check-in, and flight updates, forcing airlines to check in passengers manually.
Millions of Windows users worldwide are encountering the Blue Screen of Death, causing computers to shut down or restart repeatedly. This error message reads, “Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We’re just collecting some error info, and then we’ll restart for you,” leading to lost unsaved data and critical time.
Microsoft 365 has acknowledged the issue, stating that they are investigating the problem. The situation remains fluid as teams work to resolve the disruptions and restore normal operations.
What Indian airlines said on Microsoft outage
“We’re currently facing a technical issue in providing updates on flight disruptions. Our team is actively working to resolve this issue. We regret any inconvenience caused and will update you once the issue is resolved. Thank you for your patience and cooperation,” SpiceJet announced on X.
Akasa Air also reported service interruptions. “Due to infrastructure issues with our service provider, some of our online services, including booking, check-in, and manage booking services will be temporarily unavailable. We are following manual check-in and boarding processes at the airports and hence request passengers with immediate travel plans to reach the airport early to check-in at our counters,” Akasa Air posted on X.

We are working with them to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience.”
Delhi airport reported temporary impacts on some services. “Due to the global IT issue, some of the services at the Delhi Airport were temporarily impacted. At Bengaluru airport, nearly 90 percent of flights operating in terminal 1 have been disrupted, with the situation expected to be controlled by midnight.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu stated that the ministry and Airports Authority of India are using manual methods to ensure minimal disruption. “I have directed airport authorities and airlines to be compassionate and provide extra seating, water, and food for passengers affected by delays. We understand your concerns and are working tirelessly to ensure your safe and swift travel. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated,” he said.
Global impact
The Microsoft outage impact is also significant in Australia. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, ABC News 24 struggled to play news packages, Woolworths supermarkets experienced checkout system crashes, and police systems went down. Melbourne airport reported that several airlines’ check-in processes were affected, and Virgin Australia halted all flights at Sydney Airport due to the outage.
In the UK, the London Stock Exchange faced disruptions. In the US, the Federal Aviation Administration reported that flights from major airlines like Delta, United, and American Airlines were grounded due to a communication issue. Emergency services in several states were also affected, and British news channel Sky News went off the air for hours.
Europe is also feeling the impact, with technical issues causing check-in delays in Amsterdam. Berlin Brandenburg airport in Germany had to cancel flight operations due to the “technical problem,” with no clear timeline for resumption. Zurich airport, Switzerland’s largest, suspended all flight arrivals because of the tech outage.
